Memorial Day

Eva and I had the opportunity to go to Houston Memorial Cemetery this morning to participate in Veterans Day. We chose an area that was in back and not as attention getting as others. Every plot had a flag and I loved that.

It was so humbling to me to see the thousands of men and woman that had given their lives to give me freedom. Especially knowing that this cemetery is one of millions across the United States for those that served and gave their lives for us. What a humbling way to start the day.

Oh I just could NOT resist

I have often said that when I was pregnant with Tarah, I only had to unbutton the top button of my pants....overalls were in, so it was the top button on the side. The following pic is NOT what I meant!

Sleeping - Too Much or Too Little?

There are many different ideas about how many hours per night that people need. Of course this depends on your age, health, and circumstances. Those that cannot sleep can get tired of hearing how you need to exercise, stay hydrated, less electronic stimulation at night, time needs to be the same and on and on it goes from light to temperature. When it comes down to it each night brings a new challenge to those that do not have an easy time sleeping.

It does not matter whether it is due to stress, depression, too much on your mind even if it is good, if you have trouble you have trouble. One gives suggestions to others that have trouble, not to say that they can solve theirs even if you cannot solve yours, but to hope that they can benefit from one of the many options available, so that they can report their success and renew your hope that you too may find a solution.

When you are depressed, you do not want to get out of bed. You may not be sleeping, but you will be in and out of it and have zero desire to get out of bed even when you wake up. Then you get on medication to help your depression and guess what? It causes drowsiness. Imagine, now you feel like you can or want to get out of bed, but cannot keep your eyes open long enough to do so! Yeah.

When daytime sleep cannot happen for even a few minutes or you will be up until 5 am instead of 3 am, but you do not get out of bed until 1 or 2 in the afternoon??? This is a definite issue when you have to take care of things in a house that is hard to take care of, but yet the best time to do so is early in the morning when the house is empty. When the house is not empty you do not want to clean much less be in it.

When you have a position, you need to get up regardless. However, you find yourself finding excuses, or running down and doing enough quick enough to make it look like you have done enough hours to make it worth having you here. Balance, balance, balance. Outdoors are amazing, walking, riding bikes, swimming, the weather year round is worth going out in. Mornings are best, less heat and people.

This blog was not meant to be personal, just a diatribe...how it turned into a personal one I am not sure. Guess I need to assess the situation eh?

KURIOS - Cirque du Soleil

I had the pleasure of attending the Kurios show of Cirque du Soleil on Thursday evening.  Man alive, it was incredible. I knew that everyone liked it, thought it was amazing but I did not know the story behind it. WOW!!! I could not take pics once the show started but I took some before it started of the stage. This is the seekers mind!!

OK so these last 3 I did not take, could not as they were part of the show. But this man wore a costume that had a small living room set up in it. I did take a pic of it in the lobby not knowing what it was (see last 2 pics above). but oh my gosh, although she was different than this one, she was so tiny it was unbelievable.  Image result for small woman in cirque du soleil kurios

HOW GOOD PARENTS MISS CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE AND 5 QUESTIONS TO CHANGE THAT

How do good parents miss child sexual abuse?  It is simple.
By not asking the right questions.
One day my son went to a classmate’s home for a Halloween costume party.  When I picked him up a few hours later I could tell by the ear to ear grin on his face that he had a great time. As we were about to leave, I was standing at the door with the child’s father and grandmother.
Both adults were giving me a great report about his behavior.  Parent relieved.  Thank goodness.  No issues. No worries.
But as I drove us home I felt uneasy.  Something was off.
Then it hit me.  I swerved into the next parking lot.
I had been here before.  Except I was the child.
When parents ask children whether or not they were good in front of children and adults most children feel pressured to say yes.
I could recall that when I was being abused by a teen relative my mother would innocently ask me a few questions as we left a relative’s home.
“Did you behave?”  “Did you listen?”  “Were you a good girl?”
1.  What mom didn’t know is that the teen who was living there had threatened me before she had even arrived.   Sometimes he’d even be standing behind her balling up his fists or giving me mean looks.
2.  Asking me those questions, especially in front of a person who was using me for sexual experimentation reinforced in my young mind that I was supposed to do whatever I was told by the person who was watching me while she was gone.
3.  Because I had said, “yes” at the door I didn’t think that I could change my answer later.  To do so would mean that I would have to explain why I “lied” when she asked me earlier.
So in that parking lot I asked the correct questions.  Perhaps you may want to consider asking these questions the next time that your child is in someone else’s care.
I asked my son privately whether or not he enjoyed himself.
How did you spend your time?
What was your favorite part of the party?
What was the least favorite part?
Did you feel safe?
Was there anything else that you wanted to share?
Try to remember to make these questions a consistent habit.  Also, it might be helpful to  remind your children that they can always add details about what occurred during while they were away from you.
My mistake that day was a common one for parents.  We think that as long as we ask questions we are on top of things.
Truth is, parents have to ask the right questions, at the right time, under the right circumstances.
When the child is with the other parent, or other members of family, this can also be crucial.

Birth - Adult - Back Again

They say as you age you begin to understand more. One of the items you understand is that if you live long enough the odds of you returning to toddler stage, drooling - wearing diapers - being fed - being put to bed at night, etc. all become a reality again. I never wanted to do that, although I doubt anyone does. I have always said that if I get to a point that I can no longer take care of myself that I would rather be put out to pasture and put down...hopefully not literally.

However, today, I took my first step towards going back to childhood (or rather Eva took it for me lol) For my birthday I get a tricycle. Meet my new ride!! I will have to take a pic of me on my new wheels when it arrives next Tuesday!!

Mother's Day!!

I love my mother and I am grateful that she is in my life. I hope I have her for many years to come.

2 of my daughters are amazing mothers, and their children are so blessed to have them. I love each of my girls so very much. They are so very different and unique, each are incredible!!

There was a little quiz on FB, that I did not want to share on FB but looked fun so I thought that I would do it here.

1. Did you have an epidural?
#1 - #4 No, #5 yes
2. Was your child's father in the room?
#1 No #2-#5 yes
3. Were you induced?
#1 - #4 No, #5 yes - Dr. Corey was afraid I would have her at home or in the car
4. Did you find out the sex?
I do not remember finding out that any of them were girls, definitely not on #1, but we did 2 ultrasounds on Chrissy checking for twins as my uterus doubles each month, and 1 on each of the others so it is possible, I just do not remember
5. Original Due Date?
#1 No idea, #2 March 12, #3 May 6, do not remember exactly on #4 and #5 was July 28
6. Did you deliver early or late?
#1 No idea, #2 5 days late, #3 10 days late, #4 was not very late, but cannot remember exact date, and #5 was early by 5 days. Told Dr. Corey that if he was going to induce me (supposedly it doubled labor - he was not sympathetic or empathetic!!) I would have her early for once.
7. Did you have morning sickness?
#1 YES!!! morning is all I remember, #2, yes mornings, #3 when eating chicken and rice soup, #4 night time, #5 not really at all...very little
8. What did you crave?
#1 nothing that I remember, was not really eating a lot then, #2 tacos at 6 am and garlic bread at midnight, #3 pickles chips by the Costco gallon and Butterfingers, #4 fruits and vegetables - ironic since she hated anything healthy for first 24 years, #5 no specific cravings - just ate more healthy with her
9. How many pounds did you gain?
#1 not sure, but only had to unbutton top button of pants - so not much, #2 50, #3 40, #4 60, #5 28

11. Did you have complications?

12. Where did you give birth?
#1 LA County hospital, #2 Kaiser in Anaheim CA, #3 St. Joseph Bellingham WA, #4 & #5 AF Hospital AF UT
13. How many hours were you in labor?
#1 4.5 hours, #2 4 hours, #3 water broke approx. 8 hours before labor started - might have something to do with me jumping on the trampoline after 9 days over wanting her out?? lol Once I started labor it was only a couple of hours, #4 1.5 hours (he barely had time to catch her after I took shower and drove to AF, hence the inducing of #5), #5 50 minutes from 1st contraction until I was holding her
14. How much did your baby weigh?
#1 8.5, #2 10.2, #3 9.3, #4 8.12, #5 8.5 Perfect bookends of weight!!

Looking at RVs...Thanks Chrissy lol

I have looked at motor homes that I could feasibly drive as long as I did not have to parallel park heehee. I have looked at smaller vans fit with a bed/bath/kitchenette, and I am looking at trailers. Used trailers are not that bad in price, I was impressed. Some are really nice, and I even found some for under 10K that would work, then a truck could be purchased, used also. Who knows, then my kids could find me in their neighborhood one night lol

Oh, I cannot wait until I figure out what I am going to do when school ends in 20 weeks so I can stop thinking about it!!
