I have been trying to sleep at night and stay in my vacation mode hours, as we slept at night to get up and going in the morning to beat the heat. Wouldn't you know it, record breaking heat records in both Denmark and Norway while we were there!! I was truly looking forward to the normal 40-50 degree weather. I wanted to be cold if anything going above the arctic circle! I wasted a lot of suitcase space packing gloves, hiking boots, warm socks etc.
The flight from Houston to Frankfurt Germany was not bad, I took 267 pics between here and there, so obviously not much sleeping lol. In Frankfurt they thought Mike and Eva were my parents so that started my trip off on the right foot HAHA!!! Then just a short flight to Copenhagen Denmark. We spent 5 days exploring the city and palaces, boat cruise etc. was wonderful. I was able to get a hold of my cousin and we spent a nice night with him having dinner and visiting. That was a definite bonus.
Then off to Norway. Landed in Oslo then flew to Bodo' where we rented a van and drove to Narvick. We spent 1 night there then drove along the fjords for 3 days just seeing the country. Do not remember the other 2 towns names that we stayed in right now. But scenery...oh my gosh, so gorgeous. Just one pic to show you a taste of what was there.
I could live in Norway very easily. Relaxing and slow paced, friendly, just simply perfect. I did love everything about Norway. We stayed in Trondheim for 3 days and just saw some amazing sights. The hotel room I was in looked out over the rooftops of Trondheim and to the fjord. Man what a sight. I sat in the window every second we were not gone or sleeping. Could not get enough of the view. Then took an 8 hour train ride to Oslo. We stayed there for 3 days before we headed back. The time in Oslo was my least favorite of the trip. Could have been because I was worn out by then! But it was the most crowded of places we went and I do not like crowds, so that probably had something to do with it. Although we rented an apt. that had a wonderful view. We did have a surprise on our second night there. The fire alarm went off about midnight. Mike got dressed real quick and made sure it was real, that it was not just our room, and then we dressed and followed. Did not think a lot about it. Security came immediately and went thru the building but then 2 firetrucks, and ambulance and 2 police cars showed up and we thought it might be a big deal after all!! I guess someone on the 5th floor started cooking something then fell asleep and started a fire. Luckily it was contained in their apt. as the alarms worked perfectly. After they put the industrial size fans in the doorways and all of that we were admitted back in to sleep. Although, there was some excitement to contain after that!
Overall it was an incredible trip, once in a lifetime for me. I am very grateful for the opportunity. Despite the heat wave I fell in love with Norway and loved seeing my cousin. I would have waited until I had felt better...the 104.1 fever took a few days to recover from, and the infection a bit more. But sitting on the plane 12 hours after the fever broke I was amazed that I felt human enough to even go, so grateful I could. So other than not being as well as I would have liked to be, it was absolutely breathtaking!!
That picture is absolutely gorgeous! I am glad you had such a good time.
